The Plan, announced that the Anekona House designed by Anderson Anderson Architecture of San Francisco had been voted the top prize winner in the “Home” category of their international design awards program, finishing ahead of finalists from all over the globe.
We have dubbed the Anekona House the “Wow!” house, because that is invariably the response we hear when someone first comes over the hill and is surprised by the house and its setting. And then the “wows” continue as visitors move through the house experiencing the exterior and interior walls sliding open to create countless design and living variations.

The Anekona House is in one sense a secluded sanctuary. From it you can gaze out onto a seasonal stream in the front yard, three majestic mountains and thousands of acres of high desert grasslands down to miles of breathtaking ocean and coastline vistas…without seeing another house. Secluded and yet the Anekona House is only a seven minute drive down to the two most beautiful white sand beaches in all of Hawaii. Ten minutes up the hill is the charming small town of Waimea, home to excellent schools, fine dining, various cultural and performing arts activities…all set in the matchless rolling green hills at the foot of magnificent (and sometimes snow-capped) Mauna Kea.
